Who am I?
Welcome to Elegantly Dishevelled by me, David M. Shaw: If you checked my Twitter bio (@shaw_davidm), you’d see something like the following: Lecturer in Biblical Studies @ Perth Bible College. Loves Jesus, coffee, sport, and Campbeltown whisky. Misses living in Seoul. Not an influencer. All true, really.
What else?
I live in Perth, Western Australia, with my wife, Becky, and three children, Owen, Gianna, and Hugh. We attend Providence City Church in Perth’s inner suburbs. I spent 8+ years in South Korea where I earned an MDiv from Torch Trinity Graduate University and pastored among Seoul’s English-speaking expatriate community. I completed a PhD at the University of Exeter, UK in 2017 under the tutelage of David Horrell. My thesis investigated 1 Peter’s use of the Old Testament in the formation of the early church’s Christian identity and missional posture.
Why subscribe? // What to expect?
What you’ll likely find here, more often than not, are my musings on things I might be currently teaching, researching, or pondering with regards to the Bible and/or church ministry. I’ve had a couple of journal articles published and I’ve written a bit of stuff for both The Gospel Coalition, Australia and Think Theology in the UK. I plan to share those pieces here in the coming weeks (with links to the originals) while I work on other content. I may also dive into some of my old Twitter threads and share those here too.
Grace and peace to you, and thanks for reading.
